Podium in the Gulf 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi for the Wolf GB08 of Bellarosa, Belotti and Lian

21/01/2012 – Solid performance for the Wolf GB08-Honda in the 12 Hours of Abu Dhabi.

After the pole position set on Friday, the crew composed by Ivan Bellarosa, Guglielmo Belotti and Denis Lian led the race for more than one hour before being progressively penalized by the 45 seconds added by rule to the minimum pit-stop time.

With thirty minutes to the chequered flag and ten stops done, adding up to an handicap time of seven minutes and thirty seconds, the number 45 Wolf GB08-Honda held the fifth absolute position leading the CN2 class standings with more than 4 laps to the second, when a sudden inconvenience to an axle shaft forced the crew to the retirement.

The advantage accumulated until that point granted the three Wolf drivers the nineth final place, the second in the class and the satisfaction of the fastest lap of the race for class CN2 set by Bellarosa during the first stint (2.11.384), very close to fastest lap of race (2:11.328). The crew of the second Wolf, composed by Giorgio Vinella, Riccardo Romagnoli, Edo Varini and Juma Al Dhaeri finished on the third step of the podium.

Ivan Bellarosa:
“The outcome of the Abu Dhabi exit was certainly positive despite the specific penalization for CN2 cars, added a bit hastily after qualifying, turned out to be excessive and excluded us from the fight for the absolute win. Only in the finale we reverted to pit stops as long as the other drivers but everything was already decided; organization of the event was perfect anyway as they did a great work on a race that has all what it takes to become a classic in the International panorama.
The Wolf GB08 proved both in qualifying and the race to be able to aim to the absolute victory. We were at our first experience in this kind of competitions and the car had never run a 12 hours race before, but despite all of this we suffered a technical problem only with a few minutes to the end of the race, which confirms that the car suits well endurance races on the long distance too”.
