The pair Yokohama – Wolf Racing Cars to debut in the hill-climb at the 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica with Mirko Zanardini

18.07.2019 – A new challenge is ahead of the pairing Yokohama – Wolf Racing Cars, after the successful partnership established in the Italian Sports Prototypes Championship: the debut in hill-climb racing.

The occasion for this debut is the 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica that will take place this coming weekend on the up-hill roads of the very famous Malegno-Ossimo-Borno. This appointment will be valid as the Italian Hill Climb Trophy 2019 and FIA International Hill Climb Cup 2019.

The duty to take the Wolf GB08 Thunder fitting Yokohama ADVAN A005 tyres to the debut on the 8.800 meters of this hill-climb race has been taken on by Mirko Zanardini and Scuderia Historika. The Italian driver, class 1976, knows perfectly the GB08 Thunder as he has been taking part in the Italian Sports Prototypes Championship since the past season. He will have the chance to compete again on the hairpins of his home race that is one of the most technical and complete hill-climb races on the European scene. Zanardini will compete with the #16 in the very competitive Group E2SS, class 1000cc.

The car built by the factory based in Gardone Val Trompia is not new to hill-climbing and it claimed several podiums in the Italian Hill-Climb Championship during this season and Yokohama tyres demonstrated high performances in this type of races collecting several trophies in various categories in the past few years.

The 49th Trofeo Vallecamonica will begin on Friday, July 19th at 14:00 with sporting and technical scrutineering at the Edil Partì in Borno. The two qualifying heats will follow on Saturday at 9:00, while the first of the two hill-climb races will get underway on Sunday at 9:00.

Giuseppe Pezzaioli – Motorsport Manager Yokohama Italia:
“Following the test run in Franciacorta, we decided to make our debut in the Hill-Climb Sport Prototypes with the experienced driver Mirko Zanardini in a race that he knows very well like the Trofeo Vallecamonica. We believe that Mirko could put in a great performance behind the wheel of this Wolf GB08 fitting Yokohama ADVAN A005 tyres on a technical and challenging hill-climb like the Malegno-Ossimo-Borno”.

Giovanni Bellarosa, Wolf Racing Cars General Manager:
“When we kicked off the Wolf GB08 Thunder Project, we had the target of building a car that could be fast not only on the track, but also in hill-climbs and slaloms. On Sunday we will have our first outing and we are keen in getting indications from it. The collaboration with Yokohama started last year in the first season of the new Italian Sports Prototypes Championship and has been very successful since in the seek for constant improvement and performance of the whole package. Thanks to the great relationship with Yokohama Italia we decided to make the Wolf GB08 Thunder debut on the ADVAN A005 tyres in hill-climbs and we are very curious to see where our package stands with Mirko Zanardini behind the wheel. We know we will pay some time for the engine 1000cc but we are waiting for the specific unit that we are developing together with Aprilia Racing and that should be available in the next few months”.
