The fight for the Italian Sports Prototypes marked by Wolf Racing Cars is still open after the spectacular weekend in Vallelunga

17.09.2019 – Exciting and hard-fought, the Italian Sports Prototypes 2019 Championship, the single-make series using the Wolf GB08 Thunder powered by Aprilia 1.0 and fitting Yokohama tyres, confirmed last weekend all its value in the penultimate weekend of the season in Vallelunga.

The new formula introduced last year that involves Wolf Racing Cars for the preparation and assistance of the cars, had an unmissable weekend at the circuit named after Piero Taruffi that excited the enthusiasm of fans. The great performance put in by the cars and the competitiveness level delivered both to professional and less experienced drivers, kept the classification open as the title will be decided in the closing round at Mugello.

Riccardo Ponzio and Giacomo Pollini have been the protagonists in Vallelunga and claimed one win each. Pollini dominated all the initial sessions starting from free practice on Friday and qualifying on Saturday, where he set the pace and secured the pole position in 1’32.581s.

Ponzio’s jump off the line deserved a round of applause as he reached the Cimini 1 on top showing remarkable aggressiveness and grit that allowed him to claim his second win of the season after that taken in the second race in Misano.

Ponzio got the lead of the race early in race two thanks to another great start, but a few laps in a strong Pollini closed in and electrified the Curva Grande fans with a great move that was completed at the Cimini 1. Pollini then continued with his pace and claimed his second win of the season at the flag.

Giovanni Bellarosa (Wolf Racing Cars, General Manager):
“The Italian Sports Prototypes continues to be very exciting. In Vallelunga we had two really spectacular races full of breathtaking action and the title fight is far from being over. Pollini and Pozio put in an exciting show and I believe they will keep it up in Mugello too since there are only the two points separating them, considering the mandatory discards. Our satisfaction is complete as the challenge for the win is still open and there is a big fight also for P3. The spectacle will not go missing thanks to our Wolf GB08 Thunder challengers”.

Wolf Racing Cars will get back on track for the closing round of Italian Sports Prototypes to be run at the International Circuit of Mugello next October 4th – 6th.
